Among the later holders of the lineage was Jigme Gyalwai Nyugu, regarded as the reincarnation of Gyalse Dzamling Drukdrak, also known as Kusho Namgyal. He was born into the sacred Khyentse lineage and is remembered for his scholarship, discipline, and commitment to the transmission of teachings within the Dorjidrak tradition.
He became a disciple of the Eighth Great Vidyadhara Rigdzin Chenpo, Kalzang Pema Wangyal, and later served as a spiritual mentor to the Ninth incarnation, Thubten Chödwang Nyime Dorje. Biographical accounts describe how senior monastic authorities, seeking an appropriate teacher for Nyime Dorje, performed ritual divinations that led to the selection of Kalzang Jigme Gyalwai Nyugu as his principal instructor.
He bestowed numerous empowerments, transmissions, and instructions drawn from both the ancient and new traditions of Nyingma Buddhism, including teachings related to the Nyingma Gyudbum, the Seven Treasuries, the Ngelso Kor Sum, and the collected works of Jigme Lingpa. His activities contributed significantly to the preservation and dissemination of Northern Treasure teachings.
Historical sources also associate this incarnation with connections to the lineage of Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje. It is further recorded that he was born as the son of the King of Kangding, known as Chakla Gyalpo, reflecting the close relationship between religious and regional leadership in certain periods of Tibetan history.
